Bran means “raven” or “crow” in several languages. In Irish legend Bran was a mariner who was involved in several adventures. In Welsh legend Bran the Blessed was the son of the god Llyr. He was the king of Britain and has been injured in his leg.

Stark is Middle English for “firm”, “unyielding”, hence a nickname for a stern, determined, or physically strong person. In German, Stark means “strong” or “bold”.
